The Lebanese Council of Women is a non-governmental organization established in 1952. It is a network of 170 NGOs that work on womens rights, human rights, social development, and advocacy. It is a member of the General Union for Arab Women, International Council of women, International Democratic Women Union, the National Commission of Lebanese Women, among others. Its activities entail:
• Raising awareness of the significant role that women play in community development • Lobbying for the amendment of gender discriminatory laws • Working with the Lebanese government on ensuring that they meet their commitments to the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) • Empowering women for more effective participation in political decision-making
